This impressive home is nestled on a double lot and presides over the other grand homes of the Coffee Block Neighborhood. Beautifully landscaped with perennial flowers celebrating the glory of this property, and large trees shading a yard that is perfect for outdoor entertaining. The home, with over 3,000 sq ft of elegant living space, is an excellent example of a pristine Victorian home blending historic charm with today’s modern conveniences.

Craftsman style front porch with ample seating space and a classic wood swing guards the entrance to the home. The formal entrance has a large cloak closet and tiled floor. A formal living room is anchored by one of the homes three fireplaces and well-appointed with original millwork, two sets of oak French doors with divided light, and solid hard wood flooring. The parlor has been incorporated into this space and currently is utilized as office space.

Pleasant details such as original hardware throughout and a built-in oak buffet in the formal dining room retain the warmth of this comfortable home. The formal dining room can accommodate a large seating arrangement and is easily accessible to the kitchen. There is a dining area in the kitchen as well. Recently renovated the kitchen has been updated with new oak and glass front cabinetry, flooring and countertops. This space flows around a built-in butcher block island to a view into the back yard. The convenient water closet or ½ bath is nearby the kitchen and side door entrance. A foyer ties the main floor together and leads the way to a wide staircase to the upper levels of the home.

A wide hall with storage forms the center of a four bedroom and full bath assembly on the second floor. Each bedroom has one or two closets with the largest bedroom featuring a cozy wood burning fireplace. The solid wood flooring again is a common thread throughout the home. An efficient Lennox, dual zone heating/cooling system, with a thermostat on the main and second floors keep the home comfortable year round.

The heated half story finished space on the top floor provides living space with guest or children’s bedrooms, a writing alcove and storage. The views extend and overlook the Dawes County Courthouse park and gazebo.

The foundation of this home inside and out is brick and encloses utilitarian, laundry, storage and recreational spaces. An open family room surrounds a gas insert fireplace and is a favorite gathering place. The fully furnished bar includes a wine storage rack, dual control glass door wine cooler and a refrigerator with double beer taps. The cabinetry is Mission Oak style accented by the tile floor and a tasteful color combination.

Originally a carriage house the garage sits at the end of a paved driveway with access to the alley. Workshop space, additional storage space and attached carport. The children’s log play house is an attraction in itself. Tucked away the back yard nearby the fire pit this handsome wonder is crafted of hand hewn logs, meticulously fitted corners and includes a charming covered porch and inside loft.

The architectural elements of this home have been professionally designed and enhanced with recent finishes, décor and arranged spaces to further preserve the integrity of this home.

Ermine Coffee, the daughter of W.A. Carmean, president of the Citizens State Bank of Chadron, moved to town in 1911 and built a home at 427 Chadron Avenue.

This two and one-half story house has a twin gable arrangement on the east consisting of a bay window capped by a gable that parallels the angle of the main roof gable. The shed-roofed dormer admits light to a third story and matches the shed-roofed porch below.

An attractive carriage house is recessed to the rear of the lot to give balance to the tall Victorian house. This large house was later owned by A.W. Crites, early Chadron lawyer and business associate of the Coffee family.
